HL7 is where the practice can send patient scripts directly to your pharmacy software – RxOne/Toniq for you to dispense from. This messaging service requires integration of the HL7 software between the two systems from practice to pharmacy.
HL7 Software:
$49 +gst / per month
You will need to check with practices you receive prescriptions from to see if they are set up to send scripts to you via the HL7 secure messaging service. If they are not sure if they have this set up, they can check with their health software provider for confirmation. Since the process starts from the prescribing physician, they are the initiating source of this messaging service, if they do not have the service you will not be able to receive scripts from them in this way and you will need to explore other options.
The process:
If the practice is set up with the HL7 secure messaging service and you would like to apply, you can use this link https://register.healthlink.net/ServiceApplicationForm/ on an Internet Explorer browser, to apply for an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) name.
Follow the prompts through the screens and enter the relevant information through to the HealthCare Provider screen.
On the Healthcare Provider screen select ‘Pharmacy Council of New Zealand Register’ and tick ‘publish in directory’ so GPs can find your message address.
We recommend you print or save a copy of the registration form, as your HealthLink Message Address (EDI Account Name) is present on it.
Your application will need to be approved which is usually within 2 business days approximately. If further information is required HealthLink will contact you.
You will receive an email from HealthLink when your application has been approved and it will contain your EDI, account details and software download information.
You can now contact Toniq, RxOne or HealthLink to arrange the software installation and integration with your dispensing software.
Once your integration has been completed, you can use the below video to ensure your staff know how to manage the new process.

Ensure you notify the GP practice you deal with about your new EDO so they can start sending you e-prescriptions.
