PokemonGo: Tips and Tricks

There’s so much hype around PokemonGo that most would think the gameplay is common sense. This isn’t entirely true! If you’ve got so far as to download to extremely popular app over the past 5 days – you might be wondering, what do I do next? Fear not, here is an accumulated list of tips and tricks to boost your Pokemon powers!

  • You can pick Pikachu as your starter.
According to Paul Tassi at Forbes,“Right at the beginning of the game when you are given the usual Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle choice, pick none of them. As in, physically run away from them. The game will jump them over to try and follow you, but by the fourth time you do this, it gets the message you don’t want any of them, and surprise! There’s Pikachu, joining the party”.

  • There's a strategy to catching Pokemon.
Samuel Gibbs at The Guardian suggests "When trying to capture a Pokemon, hold your finger on your Pokeball before you throw it to see a small circle appear on the Pokemon. Its colour and size indicates how easy or hard capturing it will be. Green is the easiest, orange medium and red hard. The smaller the circle the better the chance you will have to capture it".

  • CAPTURE EVERYTHING.
Catching duplocates of Pokemon is good. Each time you catch a duplicate you still get the associated evolution candy, and you can transfer unwanted Pokemon to the professor for more candy. The more candy and star dust you have, the more you can evolve the Pokemon that you do want to keep.

  • There's a reason for the feet.
Tech Crunch have the answer! That box on the bottom right that usually have a few Pokemon is the "Nearby" drawer. This drawer shows you Pokemon that are nearby. Instead of actual numerical distances, it uses footprints. One foot means that Pokemon are very close. Three feet suggests that the Pokemon are far away, but in walking distance.

  • Different time and place = different Pokemon.
If you feel like you're catching all the same Pokemon, change your location or try hunting at a different time of day! Pokemon spawn more frequently in places where they'd make sense to be. Water Pokemon near bodies of water, grass Pokemon near parks, nocturnal Pokemon after dark etc.

As with any GPS location app, Pokemon Go has a very high battery consumption! Don't let this hold you back from your Pokemon hunt - Flick us an enquiry for a great deal on an external power bank so you can charge your device while on the move.
